How to Choose a 1280 Thermal Clip-On
A 1280 thermal clip-on has four times the pixels of a 640. Behind a day scope the image is magnified, so the extra resolution keeps it sharper as you zoom in.
Lens size
A larger lens gives a narrower, more magnified view for longer shots. The HIKMICRO Thunder TX70CL 4.0 uses a 70mm F1.3 lens with a 22.4 m wide view at 100 m.
Rangefinder
A built-in laser rangefinder saves carrying a separate unit. The TX70CL ranges from 10 m to 1,200 m from inside the lens housing.
Mounting
Clip-ons attach to the front of your day scope with an adapter sized to its objective. See our
clip-on adapters.
1280 Thermal Clip-On FAQs
Is a 1280 thermal clip-on worth it over a 640?
If you shoot at long range or run your day scope at high magnification, yes. The 1280 sensor holds more detail as you zoom. For most pig and fox shooting at normal ranges, a 640 does the job for less.
Do I need to re-zero my rifle with a clip-on?
No. A clip-on sits in front of your day scope at 1×, so your scope keeps its own reticle and zero.
