Thermal Mounts Guide

Top Mounted Thermal Mounts

The Rimtop Mount is a simple, affordable way to mount a thermal to the top of most plastic or metal spotlights with a protruding shroud of at least 10mm. It suits all current Powa Beam and Lightforce remote-mount spotlights and may also fit other similar lights. Installation requires drilling and bolting the mount directly to the spotlight shroud. Your thermal can then be quickly attached or removed using the supplied Picatinny clamp, provided the thermal has a Picatinny rail fitted. We highly recommend using a model-specific ContourLock mounting rail. The main downside is positioning. On many setups, the thermal sits quite far forward, making the spotlight more front-heavy and less balanced. It remains quite usable, but it is not the most balanced mounting option. Side Mounted Thermal Mounts

The Single QR Mount is an affordable side-mounting option that bolts under your spotlight using the main handle bolt. It uses a flat bar with multiple mounting positions and includes a quick-detach clamp for your thermal. The bar can be shortened to bring the thermal closer to the light, while the lower side-mounted position helps keep it away from branches compared with a top-mounted setup. The downside is balance, as the handle will pull toward the side the thermal is mounted on. You also lose some mounting height compared with a top mount, which can reduce penetration through grass and foliage. It is noticeable in some situations, but not a deal breaker for most users. In addition, on some setups you may get more flex and vibration through the bar due to the leverage of it being out to the side, which can present more motion blur on your tablet or screen.
