General rules
Dogs
Dogs must be used in some way for the pig to count in the competition. Pigs can be bailed and shot, but cannot just be shot without dogs involved. Dogs must be present.
The keyword
A keyword will be released at the start of each round. It must be included with your weighing and measuring proof: present or spoken during the weighing process, preferably on duct tape attached to the scales. If the keyword is not in your video, you must be able to prove the date the entry was done.
If it cannot be confirmed without reasonable doubt that the animal was weighed correctly, it will not be accepted, or the Uhunt admins will make the final decision.
Which pigs are accepted
Pigs that look significantly domestic will not be accepted. They must appear to be at least 50% feral. If there is doubt, the Uhunt admins will make the final decision.
The following are not allowed:
- Sty pigs
- Pet pigs
- Trapped pigs
- Chopper-shot pigs
- Barras entered as boars. Barras cannot be accepted as boars. Show whether the pig is a boar, sow or barra while weighing.
Where and when
- At the start of each round, you must declare the state you are hunting in, or we will assume it is the same as the previous season.
- You cannot hunt in one state and claim the animal was caught in another.
- The date on your camera must be set correctly, so we can confirm when animals were caught.
- Animals must be caught within the allocated timeframe for that round.
Cheating will result in instant disqualification.
In short: dogs involved, keyword on camera (or proof of the date), feral pigs only (no sty, pet, trapped or chopper-shot pigs), barras never entered as boars, and the right state, date and round.
Footage requirements Very important
Wild Card comps are there to encourage filming, not just to see who can get the biggest boars. You still need to capture the whole hunt, but you only need to submit video of the weighing process, as outlined in these rules.
What to film
- A clear story or progression of the hunt.
- Action footage, not just the end result.
- Clear weighing or measuring of the animal, following the rules.
If you record on a phone, it must be recorded horizontally, in landscape mode. Vertical recordings will not be accepted.
What to submit
You only need to submit video of the weighing process, filmed as set out in the weighing rules below. All entries must include usable video footage to be accepted into the competition. Final determination of what is “usable” is at the sole discretion of the admins.
In short: film the story, the action and the weigh-in, in landscape, but submit only the video of the weighing process.
Weighing
Equipment and setup
- Weighing must be done on digital scales, preferably Bristle Up Scales.
- Scales must be tared correctly and set to kilograms.
- The hold feature must not be used.
- The keyword must be present during the weighing process, said out loud or on duct tape attached to the scales, or you must be able to prove the date the entry was done.
The weighing process
Weighing should be filmed in one continuous, uncut clip showing the taring of the scales and the lifting of the pig. If it is not, admins have the right to reject the entry if the evidence is inadequate.
The video must clearly show:
- The pig and scales, preferably in one shot
- That no people are within a few metres of the animal (preferred)
Recommended method: weigh the animal sideways, using a strap or rope to tie the diagonal front and back legs together. This allows the scales and the entire animal to be shown clearly in one shot.
Not sure you are doing it right? If in doubt, call 0456 888 959.
If you hunt on your own
We understand it can be difficult to get perfect footage. Do the best you can.
Recommended equipment: a Lift and Lock strap lifter makes weighing much easier when hunting alone. It works like an endless chain but is lightweight and made from tie-down strapping.
Mystery weight
Mystery weight segments will not be as strict on the weighing procedure, because no one knows the weights until they are drawn. However, you must still do your best to weigh correctly.
Large boars (optional recommendation)
For very large boars, it is recommended to remove as much doubt as possible. Weigh it more than once and show that you did it correctly.
Errors, disputes and decisions
If mistakes are made during weighing, or the footage is not adequate to remove doubt, the entry may not be accepted. The Uhunt admins make the final call on all decisions.
In short: digital scales, tared, in kilograms, no hold feature, keyword in shot (or proof of the date). One uncut clip from tare to lift, with the pig and scales in frame.
Measuring tusks
- A soft sewing measuring tape should be used. These can be bought from Woolworths and similar stores, and it is recommended to keep one in your camera bag at all times.
- Measuring must be done while the jaw is still inside the animal, within 24 hours of dispatch. The head can be removed and measured back at the ute or at home, but still within 24 hours.
- Both bottom tusks must be measured, from the gum line to the tip, along the longest side of the tusk.
- You must provide clear video proof showing both tusks being measured correctly, with the millimetres clearly visible.
- Photos will also be accepted as proof if the keyword is present; however, video is preferred.
In short: soft tape, both bottom tusks, gum line to tip, within 24 hours, with the millimetres visible on video.
Poaching and illegal activity
Any entrant who is suspected of, involved in, or associated with illegal activity, including but not limited to poaching, may be immediately disqualified from the current competition and banned from all future competitions.
The Grunter Hunter Championships (GHC) reserves the right to take action based on reasonable suspicion, without the need for formal proof. Where appropriate, matters may be referred to relevant authorities.
All decisions are made at the sole discretion of the admins and are final and binding.
In short: illegal activity, including poaching, can mean disqualification now and a ban from all future competitions.
Who makes the decisions
The Uhunt Administration Board runs and enforces every rule in this competition, including eligibility, entries, footage quality, scoring and results. It can accept or reject any entry, disqualify an entrant at any time (including after results are announced), and update these terms when needed. Its decisions are final, although it may review one if you provide clear and verifiable evidence of a material error.
Full administration and final decision terms
All rules, eligibility requirements, entry conditions, scoring, judging, and outcomes are administered and enforced by the Uhunt Administration Board (“Administration”).
The Administration reserves the right to interpret, apply, and enforce all rules and conditions of entry at its sole discretion, including determining eligibility, validity of entries, footage quality, scoring, and compliance with these Terms.
The Administration may accept or reject any entry, and may disqualify any entrant or entry at any time, including after submission or announcement of results, where it reasonably believes there has been a breach of these Terms, unfair conduct, or behaviour that undermines the integrity of the competition.
The Administration reserves the right to amend, update, or clarify these Terms and Conditions at any time where required.
All decisions made by the Administration are final and binding.
However, the Administration may, at its sole discretion, review a decision if an entrant provides clear and verifiable evidence of a material error or incorrect determination.
In short: the Uhunt Administration Board has the final say. A decision is reviewed only on clear, verifiable evidence of a material error.
Scale accuracy checks
Right now
Scale accuracy checks are not enforced yet, but they might be if scale reliability becomes questionable. At the start of each competition period, or before weighing a massive contender, competitors may be asked to test their scales using a 5 kg weight. This should be recorded on video. Scales should read within 20 grams of 5 kg, and we can supply a 5 kg weight on request.
Coming in over the next six months
Scale accuracy checks may be required at the direction of Uhunt Administration. These checks are applied where necessary to ensure fairness, while avoiding unnecessary compliance burden on competitors where reliability has already been established.
- Uhunt Administration may request a scale check at any time during a competition period where deemed necessary.
- Where required, competitors must either return their scales to Uhunt for testing or complete a self-test.
- All approved scales will have a unique serial number engraved and recorded.
- Scales that pass may be returned to the competitor for continued use.
- If a set of scales fails, it must not be used until it meets the required standard or is approved by Uhunt Administration.
Self-testing option
- Competitors may test their own scales using a known weight when requested.
- Testing must be recorded on video and submitted to Uhunt Administration.
- The video must clearly show the scale reading and the serial number.
Test weight
- Uhunt can supply a 5 kg test weight upon request.
- Scales should read within ±20 grams of 5 kg to be considered accurate.
- This rule is enforced at the discretion of Uhunt Administration.
- Uhunt Administration reserves the right to request, waive, or accept any form of scale verification at its sole discretion, including relying on prior testing history or other evidence of accuracy.
The intent of this approach is to maintain fair and accurate results without overburdening competitors with unnecessary compliance where their equipment has demonstrated reliability.
In short: checks are not enforced yet. Once they come in, you may be asked to send your scales to Uhunt or self-test them on video against 5 kg, reading within ±20 grams.
